I was a volunteer ESL teacher and Kindergarten Teaching Assistant at Education for the Children (EFTC), an NGO based in rural Guatemala whose mission is to provide high-risk children with equal access to education. I taught all grade levels, from Kindergarten to year 12.
Responsibilities included:
- Teaching key expressions and vocabulary, with an emphasis on correct pronunciation and intonation
- Assisting the homeroom teacher with marking and carrying out oral exams
- Working with senior students once a week to develop their foundation skills to assist them with employment after graduation
With Protocol Education, I occupied various roles: cover supervisor to nursery nurse, SEN teacher to teaching assistant for an agency that offered short-term placements.
