- Ensures implementation of the environment enrichment program as required per species
- Responsible for the day to day management and operation of assigned OLAR animal housing areas including support of animal husbandry and technical procedures in multiple satellite animal facilities. Includes identification of physical plant problems and initiation and oversight of corrective action through interaction with physical plant personnel and/or equipment maintenance contract personnel
- Place work orders for physical plant problems in assigned areas of responsibility; effectively communicate needs to physical plant personnel and OLAR Director; obtain cost estimates for projects as requested; log work orders into the OLAR work order tracking system; follow-up to ensure timely completion of projects
- Ensures that animal housing room environmental parameters including temperature, air exchange, light cycles, etc. are in accordance with SOPs. Initiates work order to make corrections as necessary. Demonstrates knowledge of housing requirements, environmental parameters, and health and sanitation standards appropriate to individual species and research projects
- Responsible for oversight of service and maintenance of major pieces of equipment maintained by the animal resources technical staff for example: ventilated racks, BSL 2 and Class 100 hoods, VCR and television for the NHP environmental enrichment program, etc. Troubleshoots problems to determine best option for resolution
- Monitors facility security standards and makes recommendations to the OLAR Director in assigned area of responsibility. Communicates security standards to animal resources technical staff. Informs supervisor of security breaches or related problems
- Develops priorities and sets goals in assigned areas of responsibility consistent with organizational goals and develops effective action plans for their achievement. Conducts meetings with animal resources technical staff to facilitate attainment of work group objectives
- Review visit calendars to ensure appropriate utilization of services and the assignment of service codes. Review the patient’s plan of care to ensure it is individualized, appropriate, and adheres to the Healing Pathway recommended frequency
